JOB DESCRIPTION

Develop and support the Jan desktop application on multiple operating systems using Tauri.

Engage in full stack development, utilizing React and Node.js for the application layer and Rust for native components.

Take responsibility for packaging, building, and distributing the application, including installers, auto-updates, release pipelines, and code signing.

Prioritize strong support for Linux by ensuring packaging and distribution across various distributions.

Seamlessly integrate local model runtimes and application features throughout the development process.

Embrace an agent-native approach and run agents in parallel, maintaining a strong focus on review and guardrail discipline.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Proficient full-stack engineer with expertise in React and Node.js.

Able to create and deploy Tauri apps with practical experience.

Familiarity with Rust programming language.

Skilled in developing and distributing desktop applications across multiple platforms.

Strong understanding of Linux systems, including packaging, distribution, and system peculiarities.

Demonstrated ability to take charge of app packaging, builds, and release processes.

Capable of implementing native agent workflows and writing critical code as needed.

Comfortable with taking full responsibility, dealing with uncertainties, and quick deployment.

Knowledge of the Jan.ai ecosystem or other open-source software desktop and LLM tooling.

Experience with auto-updating, code signing, and distributing apps through app stores or package managers.

Integration experience with local model or inference runtime.

Serve as the primary bioinformatics subject matter expert for engineering teams developing cloud-native bioinformatics software. Collaborate with software architects to translate scientific workflows into scalable distributed computing architectures. Help engineers understand the computational characteristics, assumptions, and limitations of existing bioinformatics tools. Validate that modernized applications preserve scientific correctness and produce reproducible results. Define biological data models, metadata standards, controlled vocabularies, and best practices for data harmonization. Guide engineering teams in designing scalable approaches for processing large genomic and multi-omics datasets. Evaluate open-source bioinformatics software (e.g. PLINK, Regenie, BCFtools, GATK, Nextflow workflows, etc.) and identify opportunities for cloud-native modernization.
