JOB DESCRIPTION

Develop and communicate the engineering strategy, technical roadmap and priorities that align with product goals, customer outcomes and regulatory obligations.
Assume responsibility for various aspects of the engineering process including discovery, estimation, architecture, development, testing, release, production support, incident response and continual improvement.
Establish and build the engineering organisation by defining team structure and roles, participating in hiring, coaching and retaining engineers, and creating clear expectations and development paths.
Lead internal engineers and oversee external engineering delivery partners to ensure agreed outcomes, quality standards, security requirements, and delivery commitments are met.
Maintain a strong technical understanding to challenge designs, lead architecture and code reviews, resolve complex issues, and make informed decisions.
Establish and enforce engineering standards for secure software development, code quality, automated testing, release management, and technical debt reduction.
Assume responsibility for production reliability and operational readiness, including observability, capacity, availability, performance, incident management, and root-cause remediation.
Integrate security and privacy into the engineering process, including encryption, auditability, secrets management, vulnerability remediation and data minimization.
Collaborate with other teams to shape requirements, manage trade-offs, communicate risk and provide transparent delivery forecasts.
Define measurable engineering objectives and own responsible AI adoption across various areas.
Evaluate AI-enabled product opportunities and manage engineering suppliers and technology vendors.
Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and prioritization, ensuring engineering expenditure produces measurable business value.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Extensive software engineering experience, including leadership roles overseeing product engineering teams or multiple delivery streams.
Demonstrated ability to build and scale engineering teams, recruit technical talent, and develop engineers and technical leaders.
Proven track record of owning complex software products from architecture and delivery through production operation, with a focus on reliability, security, and measurable business outcomes.
Strong knowledge of system design across various technical areas including distributed systems, APIs, event-driven workflows, relational data, caching, asynchronous processing, cloud infrastructure, and observability.
Practical experience with modern technology stacks such as TypeScript, React, Node.js/NestJS, Fastify, PostgreSQL/Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis, AWS, containerized workloads, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
Thorough understanding of financial data integrity, database transactions, reconciliation, audit logging, data retention, and secure multi-tenant design.
Applied expertise in secure software development lifecycle, threat and vulnerability management, identity and access control, encryption, secrets management, incident response, and disaster recovery.
Experience in defining engineering metrics, service objectives, release controls, and operational support models in high-availability environments.
Demonstrated ability to assess and integrate AI-assisted engineering tools or AI-enabled capabilities with appropriate governance, privacy, security, evaluation, and human oversight.
Experience in managing external engineering partners or distributed teams, including delivery governance, quality assurance, knowledge transfer, and risk management.
Strong commercial judgment and the ability to balance delivery speed, engineering quality, operational risk, cost, and long-term maintainability.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to interact with senior business, product, risk, and operational stakeholders across various cultures.
Collaborative, low-ego leadership style with sound judgment, personal accountability, resilience, and evidence-based decision-making.
A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience in fintech, banking, payments, custody, client-money, reconciliation, or financial reporting, or a regulated environment.
Familiarity with FCA expectations, CASS controls, ISO 27001, or comparable security and assurance frameworks.
Experience in growing a new engineering center or transitioning product knowledge and delivery ownership between organizations.
Familiarity with Amazon Cognito, ECS Fargate, S3, SQS, KMS, CloudFront, WAF, CloudWatch, Datadog, Prisma, BullMQ, or TanStack.
Experience in evaluating generative AI, agentic workflows, retrieval systems, or machine-learning services for production use.
Relevant AWS, security, architecture, data, or delivery certification.
