Senior/Principal Database Administrator (DBA)

Looking for a strong, outstanding, persistent Database Administrator who has experience or is eager to learn HP Vertica, and ready to challenge himself/herself in the area of Data Warehousing / Data Marting. Be responsible for both DB administration and DB-related design/development tasks on not only Vertica but also PostgreSQL and MariaDB.

Participation on proof-of-concepts of other related technologies can be required as well (e.g. Hadoop).

Operate many highly utilized Vertica database clusters.

Proactively monitor server and database process health to ensure availability and performance.

Provide database performance tuning.

Validate and maintain data security.

Cooperate on investigation of Vertica bugs together with Vertica support. Work closely with the Vertica community.

Implement reproducer scripts.

Define best practices, help (internal) users/developers with good database design, provide tips, training, workshops: SQL performance tuning, Database monitoring, ...

Implement DB-related automatic deployment processes

Implement DBA tooling: e.g. backup / restore, monitoring, …

Implement DB-related tooling: e.g. analyze/predict workload

Good English is a MUST so you can communicate with the Vertica Support team.

Analytical, problem solving ability are your strengths.

Experience working on multitasking and prioritizing.

Able to work independently and collaboratively.

Know how to make decisions, explain and presentation.

Hands-on experience as DBA with any enterprise database system: e.g. Oracle, DB2, MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Teradata

In-depth knowledge of database internals and data structures

Hands-on experience with database optimization and tuning

Good knowledge of Linux operating system administration

Hands-on experience with development in scripting languages: shell, python, perl, ruby, ...

Hands-on experience with development of DB-related tooling: deployment, monitoring, ...

5+ years experience in DBA.

Hands-on experience in relational database design, transactional SQL and DBMS (Vertica, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL or MSSQL).

Prior experience with Vertica.

Database certifications.

Hands-on experience with managing large data volumes (1+ TB)

Hands-on experience with Graphite monitoring / Grafana

Hands-on experience with automatic deployment tools such as Puppet, Foreman, Jenkins, Docker containers, Splunk and GIT
