JOB DESCRIPTION

Guide the data architecture track of Discovery: platform design, technology selection, and assessment of existing client data systems
Collaborate on the specification baseline - your data platform design and the delivery requirements produce one artifact the team commits to
Establish and uphold data modeling standards (Kimball, Data Vault, or hybrid) appropriate to each client context
Create and maintain architecture decision records (ADRs) that explain what was decided, what was rejected, and why
Establish pipeline security, governance, and compliance posture: access control, data lineage, PII handling, audit architecture
Provide guidance to Senior Data Engineers on architecture standards and cross-engagement technical questions throughout delivery
Identify and flag data-layer risk at design time - scalability, compliance, integration, observability - before the build starts
Responsible for the data engineering hiring bar and practice standards; build the data capability across the organization.

JOB REQUIREMENT

Holds a bachelor's degree or higher in IT, computer science, or related field, with a preference for a master's degree or equivalent experience
Has 7+ years of experience in data engineering or data architecture, including at least 3 years in a senior or lead role making platform-level decisions
Demonstrates hands-on engineering capability, capable of contributing at a Senior Data Engineer level when necessary, rather than only designing from a distance
Able to assess an existing client data system and generate a practical technical baseline
Proficient in reviewing and guiding AI-generated code, identifying correctness, security, and quality issues promptly
Possesses strong business-level English skills to engage in architecture conversations with client CTOs and technical leadership
Familiarity with data lakehouse architecture (Delta Lake, Iceberg, or Hudi), understanding design trade-offs, not just implementation
Proficiency in cloud data platforms such as AWS (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Lake Formation) and/or Snowflake at both design and performance-tuning levels
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Pulumi, or equivalent, able to design and review, not just author
Expertise in data governance and security, encompassing lineage, access control, PII classification, and compliance-aware architecture from the outset
Proficiency in orchestration and observability tools like Airflow, dbt, or equivalent, capable of evaluating and recommending across options
Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud data architecture, handling AWS, Snowflake, Azure, or GCP simultaneously in a single engagement
Proficiency in ML pipeline infrastructure, including feature stores, model registries, and data versioning, and understanding how data architecture supports AI/ML at scale
Experience in independently owning both the data architecture design and the delivery commitment on the same engagement
Deep knowledge of at least one regulated data domain, such as healthcare (HIPAA, HL7, FHIR), pharmaceutical (21 CFR Part 11), financial services, or equivalent
